Spinal Decompression in Costa Rica

Spinal Decompression is a treatment program to eliminate the symptoms of chronic back and neck pain.

Spinal Decompression is FDA Approved (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) and is a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure requiring no hospitalization.

The treatment is ideal for people suffering from back pain, sciatic nerve compression, protruding discs, herniated discs, disc degeneration, failed surgeries, facet syndrome or neck pain.

The discs are worn out with daily body movements and positions. This causes the inflammation of the disc to increase during the day and decrease during the night. The weight we endure during the day causes the discs to wear out. A worn disc is one that is losing nutrients and therefore is more prone to injury.

By using the traction method through a series of automated and computer-controlled procedures, the pressure between the affected discs is reduced which promotes the absorption of water, oxygen and nutrients in the affected area.

This procedure acts by rehydrating the injured disc naturally and gradually reconstitutes it.

To perform this treatment you need a reference of a doctor with knowledge of the procedure of spinal decompression.

Physiomed provides Spinal Decompression using the AXIOM DRX900 Combination System and they have a neurosurgeon to consult and advise if the the treatment if appropriate for the patient.

This treatment consists of 18- 20 sessions divided over a period of 6 weeks:

• Cervical: 3 times x week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

• Lumbar: Week 1 and 2: every day from Monday to Friday.

Week 3 and 4: 3 times x week. Monday Wednesday and Friday.

Week 5 and 6: 2 times x week.

Each session lasts for 28 minutes of decompression and is supplemented with traditional therapy to prevent or decrease inflammation and pain in the affected area.

When the patient is recommended to start the treatment DO NOT perform exercise for at least 2 weeks. At the end of the treatment an appointment with your specialist doctor is recommended to verify the final state. Additionally it is recommended to continue with traditional therapy to maintain the improvement and adopt an exercise program recommended by your specialist.

The cost of the treatment at Physiomed is $ 1,900 if it is paid in cash, transfer or check and $ 2,000 if with credit or debit card, and they accept all major insurances. This includes the 20 sessions of 1 hour each session, and the corset for lumbar support in the case that corresponds to your treatment.
