An article published today in Costa Rica, revealed further details of the new medical tourism hospital in Costa Rica.
Costa Rica currently has two Joint Commission International (JCI) accredited hospitals – CIMA Hospital San Jose and Hospital Clinica Biblica San Jose. These hospitals undergo regular accreditation to ensure they reach the standards required by the US accreditation body.
This new hospital in San Raphael de Alajuela is intended to double the number of medical tourists coming to Costa Rica. According to PROMED, nearly 50,000 medical tourists visited Costa Rica in 2012.
American World Clinics will invest $150million in the construction of the 12,000 square meter hospital on a 9 hectare property, which will open in 2016.
“The hospital will provide general surgical services and medical specialties including orthopedics, cardiology, urology, oncology, plastic surgery, and others.
AWC estimates the hospital will have the capacity to perform up to 18,000 surgeries annually.
The project also includes construction of a five-star, 100-room hotel operated by California company K-Hotels, and a retirement community for some 400 people”.
