“When Diabetes affects the eye it is called Diabetic Retinopathy. Diabetes causes damage to the retinal blood vessels at the back of the eye. If the macula area (central part of the retina where the best vision takes place) of the eye is affected, this is called Macular Edema. If the blood supply to the eye is affected, this is called Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy.
